Martin and Nicola

Two city slickers from Jo’burg, the economic hub of Africa, took a holiday trip to Kruger and ended up falling hopelessly in love with the absolute splendor that is the Lowveld (sometimes affectionately known as the “slow-veld”) and decided that it would be an amazing place for their children to grow up.

They moved to Hoedspruit, Wildlife Haven, a name which literally translates as “Hat River” named by an early farmer who lost his valuable headgear to the river in a flashflood and quickly grew to love not just the visual beauty but also the abundance of delicious mango and citrus fruits, easily accessible given their close proximity to the specialist farmers in the area.

Their Mission

The seasonality of fruit means it’s only available for a short period of the year, but luckily the locals have learned to dry it to perfection, making sure the delectable taste and nutritional content is preserved so that it can be enjoyed all year round.

Deciding that this was just too good to keep to themselves, they initially partnered with Hlokomela, an award-winning charity to obtain a year-round supply of superb, Grade 1 – quality products at great prices and have continued with engaging with local farmers and suppliers.

Giving Back!

Hlokomela focuses on the HIV and AIDS educational and treatment programme in the Greater Kruger to Canyons area located in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, undertakes amazing work across many spheres of the community.

Fresh from the Hoed is very passionate about supporting, uplifting and care of the local community and are proud to be able to #supportlocal in terms of the farmers as well as uplifting and caring for the community, while ensuring that people all over the country can enjoy the awesome products of this region!
